One day trip to Milan. Couple adventure.

Ciao Milan? Were you waiting for us? I am sure, SI!

Duomo di Milano

Who follows our adventures on instagram, facebook or twitter, then already knows, that in one of the days spent in Turin, we decided to take fast train to get to Milan. We took tickets, few days previously, for a really great price 9.90EUR/pers one way. It was a special offer during those days. So, we took advantage of this offer, and took round trip tickets for only us 2 in a super fast train, that gets you within 1h from Turin to Milan.

There is as well the option to take normal train, that gets you in 3h to Milan for 12,50 EUR. I mean, if you do not find an offer for a super fast train, this one is an option. As prices for fast train are much higher usually.

We took our train at 9.25 and were in Milan at 10.30, and our way back was at 20.28. All day long for us 2. Romantic… don´t you think so?

Once there,  there were a lot of beautiful Christmas trees at the Railway Station. We kept doing pictures all over there.

When we get out of the station, we were looking for a city map, to get to all main places to visit and see. As I confessed on my previous post, we didn’t planified our trip this year at all. We saw bikes, that can be took for 1 day only, by downloading the map. And the price is quite good, 4.50EUR/per day per person. Which includes 30 min for FREE, and then special prices are applied.

We decided to explore the city on foot. There is a long time, since we haven’t walked so much during our travels. With kids, you don´t permit yourself such a thing.

From Centrale Railway Station, we walked by Via Vittor Pisani, and then through quite small streets, till we got to Porta Venezia. Just after this, we´ve made some walk through the nearby park, Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli. The park is very beautiful. It was the first time, when I thought about our kids. There are a lot of things to do for families with kids.

Our second stop, was the main reason we came to Milan. Visit Duomo di Milano, the most famous Cathedral of Milan. You will notice it from a far. It is truly magnificent sight, even more if you are familiar with the fact, that 6 centuries were needed to be completely built. It has over 3,500 statues, 135 spires, and 5 bronze doors. The magnitude of this place, leave you speechless. We spent some time admiring the façade with its spires and statues. We didn´t enter inside, as the queue was sooooo long, as we even didn´t want to spent our precious time on a queue. The only bad thing to notice here, is that this place is really crowded, it was even so complicated to take a picture of it. Anyway, it was pleasant to see Duomo di Milano not only in pictures.

We headed over to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, a 19th century arcade to the right of the Duomo. Walked under the glass dome, we checked out the mosaics on the floor.

Just in front of it, you will see an amazing fountain, and you can listen really pleasant songs right sitting there. Then we were amazed about Piazza Castello and Arco della Pace, right on the other side of the park. The sights of the park can fall in love everyone with it´s beauty and the well done planification of the park. People enjoy walking, picnicking, jogging and hanging out with friends.

Spending only one day in Milan, we had enough time to explore some of the most famous Milan tourist attractions and feel the city’s vibe too.

Milan´s some facts:

  • Milan is the fifth-largest city in the European Union and is recognized worldwide for being a design and fashion capital. It’s set apart by the city’s glamor and passions – football, opera, and fashion. We saw a lot of beautiful arranged stores, but this day wasn´t dedicated to shopping at all.
  • Visiting cafés and gelaterias, you will realize there are two different prices – for take-away or for sitting behind the table. It is cheaper to drink your coffee at the bar than to sit down too. In one of the places, they didn’t leave us to sit, just because we were not planning to take lunch. We took our coffee standing on our feet.
  • Italy is known for its cuisine – fresh pasta, bread, tomatoes, pizza, gelato, and wine. It’s easy to have a great (and expensive) meal anywhere in Italy. We decided to take a good pizza Margherita. No matter which restaurant you will choose, you will not be able to avoid paying for service. In our case we payed 2eur/person.
  • Milan will surprise you by the amount of things to see and do around town, and how diverse the city is. Many know that Milan is Italy’s fashion and design capital, but it also offers so much more historic and artistic sights.

I hope we opened your motivation to visit this beautiful city one day! Maybe it is worth going there for more that only 1 day.

Till next time.

What a beautiful city, never even knew it existed myself. And the fast train what a deal at Christmas time it looks. And the cathedral, that sounds and looks like a must visit.

I’ve never been to Italy, though it is certainly on my list. But after seeing this post it’s definitely bumped up a few spots closer to my “next destination”.
