1 day in Turin. Things to see and do in Turin.

We went several times to Turin, and it wasn’t only 1 day trip, but I thought that it would be very informative for those who travel to Turin for only 1 day.

Here I will propose you the best things to see, eat and do while in Turin.

First time when we arrived in Turin, I had on my top list of the Egyptian Museum, because I checked on the internet the top things to see, and this was on the very top of the list.

Where is Turin?

Turin, or Torino, is the capital of the Piedmont region in northwest Italy. It sits along the Po River. Its closest major city is Milan, which is about 2 hours away by car and train.

How to Get to Turin?

We flew with a direct flight from Barcelona. But if you come from other Italian cities, that the train is the best option.

How to Get Around Turin?

The city is small enough that you can walk it easily But, if you want to visit some main attractions and fast, then we advise you to take public transport. Or, another option would be a hop-on, hop-off bus. It has three different lines, so you’ll want to see which one has the places you most want to go.

Top Things to Do in Turin with kids in One Day

Visit the Museo Egizio

This museum, founded in 1824, is the world’s oldest Egyptian museum. It has one of the most extensive collections of Egyptian artifacts outside of Egypt. As an adult I enjoyed a lot the place, but the kids were really bored after 1h, and the thing is that the museum is interesting for kids, but as it is so huge, they got bored fast.

Visit Mole Antonelliana

Named after its architect, Alessandro Antonelli, the Mole Antonelliana was originally meant to be a synagogue. Today it houses the Museo Nazionale del Cinema, which, of course, celebrates Italian cinema. The museum is a must-see place, and it is very entertaining for kids.

Piazza Castello

Piazza Castello is, of course, Turin’s main city square. From here you can see the baroque and neoclassical-designed Palazzo Reale, a palace from the House of Savoy that dates back to the 1600s.

Check out the Basilica Superga

Located just outside of Turin, on top of Superga Hill, this Catholic church was designed by Filippo Juvarra for Victor Amadeus II of Savoy. The views from here over Turin are spectacular, and kids will enjoy the place to go there and forth

Piazza San Carlo

Piazza San Carlo (San Carlo Square) is one of my favorites, and in winter time it is priceless. I can imagine how beautiful it is in summer time. It is Turin’s main squares.

With its arcades, its 2 twin churches (the church of Santa Cristina and the San Carlo Borromeo church) and the equestrian statue of Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoy.

Monte dei Cappuccini

I would advise you to choose between Basilica Superga or Monte dei Cappuccini, because both in 1 day not sure you could get. But any of those will be a good choice for top views lovers.

Where to eat in Turin?

Al Bicerin

This ciocolateria (chocolate house), founded in 1763, invented Bicerin and was a regular hangout for Alexandre Dumas, Puccini, and Nietzsche. We found this place a little bit expensive, if compared with other coffee bars and restaurants. But, if you are looking for something exclusive and very special, then you have to come here and try Bicerin.

Eataly

It is a chain of restaurants in Turin, and you can find several of those in the city center. They serve organic food, and very delicious pasta.

But, if you have enough time, I advise you to go to Osteria del Fiat Fate – In Fretta A Tavola. The restaurant is located in the historic Lingotto production facility in Turin. This place is open from 1900 and is an ideal place to eat classic dishes in a warm and welcoming setting. We ate super delicious pasta, me pasta with porcini, and hubby pasta a la carbonara. And the best part of the day, was eating the famous cake of the restaurant Torta Fiat 500. It is one of the places that you don’t have to miss up, while in Turin.

And here it is, if you like the post, leave us a comment.
