Disclosure: our five-night stay at Ta Leli was a collaboration with Baron Holiday Homes and was free of charge. We chose what to write, and this review includes the things that didn’t work for us.
By the time we reached Gozo we had been travelling since dawn: a Ryanair flight from Barcelona, a drive to the north of Malta, and the ferry across. Inga from Baron Holiday Homes was waiting for us outside the house. Ten minutes later the boys had opened every cupboard in the place, and we had that feeling you rarely get on holiday: as if we had come home.
This is our Baron Holiday Homes Gozo review of Ta Leli Holiday Home, a three-bedroom country house with a private pool just outside Xagħra, where we spent five nights in May 2018 with Damian (5) and Marc (2).

Who are Baron Holiday Homes?
Baron is a local Gozo company that has been renting out villas, farmhouses and apartments for about 25 years. Its office is in Victoria, and its houses are spread across the island. Marsalforn, Għasri and Kerċem have the most, and some farmhouses sleep up to 16. We dealt with Brian before the trip and Inga on arrival, and both were quick and personal in the way a small local company can be and a big platform can’t.
How to get to Ta Leli
We flew from Barcelona to Malta with Ryanair. Our car hire company, Mayjo, met us at the airport and drove us north to the ferry. From arrivals to Victoria took about an hour and a half: roughly 45 minutes by road to Ċirkewwa, around 25 minutes on the Gozo Channel ferry, then the drive up from Mġarr.
From Victoria, Xagħra is a short drive. You need a car here. There is a bus stop about 50 m from the house, but with small children a car is what makes a Gozo villa work.

What is Ta Leli Holiday Home like inside?
Kitchen and living room
The ground floor is one big, open kitchen and living space that opens straight onto the pool. It’s where we spent most of our time. The furniture is a mix of vintage pieces and good-quality wood, which gives the house character rather than the usual rental beige.
A full kitchen was the real luxury with a two-year-old: snacks at any hour, breakfast in pyjamas, and dinner at 6 pm without a restaurant.

Bedrooms and bathrooms
Three bedrooms (two doubles and a twin) and four bathrooms: three upstairs next to the bedrooms and one downstairs for guests. We were four and used one bedroom, because both boys wanted to sleep with us. The house would suit two families or grandparents travelling with you much better than it suited us.

The pool and terrace
I’ve worked in the travel industry for years, and I have seen smaller pools at four-star hotels. The pool at Ta Leli is private, it has a terrace with a dining table and a barbecue, and there was nobody else in it.
Damian swam several times a day. The water in May was a little chilly, but by midday the sun made it lovely. We ate lunch outside most days. We never used the barbecue: we were out exploring every evening.

Is Ta Leli good for young children?
For a five-year-old, it was perfect. For a two-year-old, it needs care, and I’d rather tell you that than leave it out:
- The pool has no shallow end. It is 0.9 m at its shallowest and 1.9 m at its deepest, so a toddler can’t stand anywhere. Marc was only ever in the water with one of us.
- No pool fence was mentioned in the listing when we checked. Recent guest reviews also note there’s no handrail on the inside staircase or the pool steps.
- Cot and high chair can be added at a small charge (listed at €10 and €5 per booking in September 2026).

Where is Xagħra, and is it a good base?
Very good. Xagħra sits on a hill in the middle of Gozo, so nothing is far: Ramla Bay is 2.7 km away, and the Citadel, Marsalforn and the salt pans are all a short drive. Ġgantija Temples, older than the pyramids, are in the village itself. On our first evening we walked round the parish square and the boys spotted the red telephone boxes, the same as in London.
For everything we did from here, see our 5-day Gozo itinerary and Gozo with kids guide.
Our verdict on Baron Holiday Homes Gozo
Would we book Ta Leli with our own money? Yes, with children aged about four and over. The pool, the space and the location are what you want from a Gozo villa, and the Baron team felt like locals looking after us rather than a booking platform.
Where it falls short: the pool depth with a toddler, and a house that is simply bigger than a family of four needs. With a two-year-old again, I’d ask Baron for one of their properties with a shallow pool step.

Baron Holiday Homes Gozo: your questions answered
Is Baron Holiday Homes good for families?
Yes. We stayed five nights at their Ta Leli villa in Xagħra with a five-year-old and a two-year-old. The private pool, full kitchen and space made it far easier than a hotel. The pool has no shallow end, so toddlers need an adult in the water at all times.
Where is Ta Leli Holiday Home?
About 1.2 km outside Xagħra, a village in the middle of Gozo. Ramla Bay is 2.7 km away, Ġgantija Temples are in the village, and Victoria, Marsalforn and the salt pans are a short drive.
How big is the pool at Ta Leli?
The private pool measures 5.5 × 3.2 metres and is 0.9 to 1.9 metres deep. In May the water was a little chilly in the morning but pleasant by midday.
How much does Ta Leli cost per night?
Baron Holiday Homes lists Ta Leli from about €143 to €199 a night depending on season, as of September 2026. It sleeps up to seven in three bedrooms, with four bathrooms.
Do you need a car at a Baron villa in Gozo?
Yes, realistically. Most Baron houses are in villages rather than resorts. There is a bus stop about 50 metres from Ta Leli, but with children a car is what lets you use the whole island.
Wonderful apartments! Amazing family! Thanks for sharing your experience!
The apartments look like they have a warm cosy feeling to it.
