Ultimate Ibiza Travel Guide (2026): Everything You Need for the Perfect Trip

When people hear the word Ibiza, they often picture world-famous beach clubs, luxury yachts, and parties that last until sunrise.

We did too.

But after spending a week exploring the island as a family during the summer of 2026, we discovered an Ibiza that looks completely different from the one shown on social media.

Instead of nightclubs, our days were filled with crystal-clear coves, hidden beaches surrounded by pine forests, scenic coastal drives, family-friendly restaurants, peaceful villages, and some of the most beautiful sunsets we’ve ever seen.

During our trip we:

  • stayed in Es Canar
  • explored more than 10 beaches
  • drove around the entire island
  • visited charming villages
  • discovered hidden viewpoints
  • tested local restaurants
  • experienced boat trips
  • explored Ibiza’s UNESCO-listed Old Town
  • travelled with our two children, making family-friendly experiences our priority

Everything you’ll read in this guide comes from our own experience.

There are no copied recommendations or generic tourist lists.

If a beach was difficult to reach with children—we’ll tell you.

If parking filled before 10 a.m.—we’ll tell you.

If a restaurant surprised us—we’ll recommend it.

And if something wasn’t worth the hype, we’ll save you both time and money.

Whether you’re visiting Ibiza for three days or planning a full week on the island, this guide brings together everything we learned while exploring one of Spain’s most beautiful Mediterranean destinations.

By the end of this guide you’ll know:

✔ Which beaches are actually worth visiting

✔ Where to stay depending on your travel style

✔ How much a trip to Ibiza really costs

✔ Which places are perfect for families

✔ Hidden gems most tourists never discover

✔ Our complete 7-day itinerary

Let’s start with one simple question.

Why Visit Ibiza?

Although Ibiza is often called Europe’s party capital, that reputation only tells a tiny part of the story.

Once you leave the nightlife behind, you’ll discover an island full of natural beauty, traditional villages, quiet coves, and landscapes that feel almost untouched.

For us, Ibiza was one of the biggest surprises we’ve had while travelling around Spain.

The island combines everything we love about Mediterranean destinations:

  • turquoise water that rivals the Caribbean
  • dramatic rocky cliffs
  • secluded beaches
  • picturesque whitewashed villages
  • excellent local cuisine
  • safe, relaxed atmosphere
  • beautiful coastal drives
  • unforgettable sunsets

Unlike many beach destinations, Ibiza offers much more than simply spending the day by the sea.

One morning you can wander through a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the afternoon you can kayak into sea caves.

By sunset you’re dining at a beachfront restaurant while the children play barefoot in the sand.

It’s this variety that makes Ibiza special.

Whether you’re travelling as a couple, with young children, with teenagers, or even solo, the island offers something that fits your pace.

Where Is Ibiza?

Ibiza is one of Spain’s Balearic Islands, located in the Mediterranean Sea approximately 150 km east of mainland Spain.

Together with:

  • Mallorca
  • Menorca
  • Formentera
  • Cabrera

it forms the Balearic archipelago.

Although Ibiza covers only around 572 km², it offers remarkable diversity.

Within an hour’s drive you can travel from lively beach resorts to peaceful mountain villages, secluded coves, salt flats, pine forests, and historic fortifications.

Ibiza at a Glance

Country: Spain

Region: Balearic Islands

Capital: Ibiza Town (Eivissa)

Population: Approximately 160,000

Official Languages: Spanish and Catalan

Currency: Euro (€)

Driving: Right-hand side

How to Get to Ibiza

The easiest way to reach Ibiza is by plane.

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) welcomes direct flights from most major European cities throughout the year, with even more routes available during the summer season.

From Barcelona, the flight takes approximately one hour, making Ibiza one of the easiest island escapes from mainland Spain.

If you’re already travelling around Spain, ferries also operate regularly from:

  • Barcelona
  • Valencia
  • Dénia
  • Palma de Mallorca
  • Formentera

Although ferries take longer than flights, they’re a great option if you’re bringing your own car, which can be particularly useful for families planning to explore the island.

Do You Need a Car in Ibiza?

Our answer is simple:

Yes.

Renting a car completely transformed our holiday.

Originally, we thought we’d spend most of our time relaxing at the hotel and nearby beach.

Instead, having a car allowed us to discover quiet coves, scenic viewpoints, charming villages, and restaurants we would never have reached otherwise.

Many of Ibiza’s most beautiful beaches are tucked away along winding coastal roads, where public transport is limited.

If you’re planning to explore more than one or two beaches, a rental car is easily the best investment you’ll make during your trip.

Our tip: Book your rental car well in advance during July and August, when availability becomes limited.

Best Time to Visit Ibiza

One of Ibiza’s biggest advantages is its long Mediterranean season.

From late spring until well into autumn, the weather is ideal for beach holidays.

Here’s what you can expect throughout the year.

MonthWeatherCrowdsSwimming
MarchMildLow
AprilPleasantLow⚪ Possible
MayWarmMedium
JuneHotMedium✅ Excellent
JulyVery HotHigh⭐ Perfect
AugustVery HotVery High⭐ Perfect
SeptemberWarmMedium⭐ Perfect
OctoberPleasantLow
November-FebruaryMildVery Low

We visited in July, when the sea was wonderfully warm, every beach was open, restaurants were lively, and the island had a fantastic summer atmosphere.

The only downside was that popular beaches filled up early, making an early start worthwhile if you wanted easy parking.

How Many Days Do You Need in Ibiza?

This depends on your travel style.

3 Days

Ideal for:

  • first-time visitors
  • couples
  • weekend escapes

You’ll have enough time to visit Ibiza Town, explore a few famous beaches, and enjoy a boat trip.

5 Days

Perfect for most travellers.

Five days allow you to combine beach time with sightseeing, explore several different regions of the island, and enjoy a more relaxed pace.

7 Days (Our Recommendation)

After spending a full week in Ibiza, we felt this was the ideal amount of time.

It allowed us to:

  • explore nearly every coastline
  • discover hidden beaches
  • enjoy relaxing hotel days
  • visit Dalt Vila
  • take scenic drives
  • experience boat trips
  • enjoy leisurely dinners by the sea
  • avoid rushing from one attraction to another

If your schedule allows, seven days offers the perfect balance between exploration and relaxation.

Where to Stay in Ibiza: Best Areas & Hotels for Every Type of Traveler

One of the questions I received most often while sharing our Ibiza trip on Instagram was:

“Where should we stay in Ibiza?”

And honestly, there’s no single correct answer.

Ibiza may be a relatively small island, but every corner has its own personality. Some areas are lively and full of beach clubs, others are peaceful fishing villages where the loudest sound you’ll hear is the gentle splash of the waves.

The great thing is that you can drive across the island in about an hour, so wherever you stay, you’re never too far from your next adventure.

That said, choosing the right base will shape your holiday more than choosing the hotel itself.

During our trip in July 2026, we stayed on the island’s east coast in Es Canar, a decision we would happily make again, especially when traveling as a family.

Where We Stayed: Leonardo Royal Suites Ibiza Santa Eulalia

If you’re traveling with children or simply enjoy a quieter holiday, Leonardo Royal Suites Ibiza Santa Eulalia is a fantastic choice.

(You’ll find our complete hotel review in a separate article.)

From the moment we arrived, we felt we had made the right decision.

Instead of crowded party streets, we found a relaxed seaside atmosphere where families, couples, and groups of friends could all enjoy Ibiza at their own pace.

Our suite was spacious enough for the four of us, giving everyone room to unpack and settle in comfortably after days spent exploring the island.

One thing we particularly appreciated was that our stay included half board.

Breakfast gave us plenty of energy before heading out to discover new beaches, while dinner was the perfect way to unwind after spending the entire day in the sun.

For families, not having to think about finding a restaurant every evening makes a huge difference.

The hotel also offers several swimming pools, direct beach access, entertainment during the summer season, and beautiful sea views.

Why Es Canar Was the Perfect Base

Before arriving, we weren’t sure whether staying outside Ibiza Town would be the right choice.

Looking back, we wouldn’t change a thing.

Es Canar has everything we needed:

  • a beautiful sandy beach
  • supermarkets within walking distance
  • restaurants overlooking the sea
  • a relaxed atmosphere
  • easy parking
  • quick access to the island’s eastern beaches

It also became the perfect starting point for our daily road trips.

Within 20 to 40 minutes we could reach many of Ibiza’s most famous beaches without changing hotels.

Another pleasant surprise was how peaceful the evenings felt.

Instead of loud nightlife, we enjoyed sunset walks along the promenade while the children played by the beach.

For our family, this was exactly the Ibiza we had hoped to discover.

The Best Beaches in Ibiza: Our Honest Family Guide

If there’s one reason why we’d return to Ibiza tomorrow, it would be the beaches.

We’ve been fortunate enough to travel to many beautiful destinations across Spain—from the wild coves of Costa Brava and the golden beaches of Costa Daurada to the Canary Islands—but Ibiza surprised us in a way we didn’t expect.

The water really is that blue.

Some beaches look almost tropical, with shades of turquoise and emerald that seem unreal until you see them with your own eyes. Others are hidden between dramatic cliffs, where the scent of pine trees mixes with the salty Mediterranean breeze.

During our week on the island in July 2026, we made it our mission to discover as many beaches as possible. Some became instant favorites. Others were beautiful but far busier than we had imagined. A few required a little walk but rewarded us with unforgettable views.

Below are the beaches we genuinely recommend based on our own experience.

Cala Nova

One of Ibiza’s Best Beaches for Families

If we had to recommend just one beach for families, Cala Nova would be near the top of our list.

Located only a few minutes from Es Canar, Cala Nova offers everything we look for when traveling with children.

The beach is long enough that it never feels overcrowded, even in the middle of summer. The sand is soft, the water incredibly clear, and although small waves occasionally roll in, they’re usually gentle enough for children to enjoy.

Unlike many tiny coves around Ibiza, Cala Nova gives everyone enough space.

Our boys spent hours alternating between swimming, building sandcastles and simply watching the colorful fish near the rocks.

There is a large parking area, but during July it begins filling around 10:00 a.m.

Our advice?

Arrive before 9:30 if possible.

Just a short drive from Cala Nova lies Cala Llenya.

This beach has a completely different atmosphere.

We loved sitting beneath the shade of the pine trees while the kids explored the shoreline looking for shells.

This became “our local beach” during the week.

It may not be Ibiza’s most spectacular beach, but that’s exactly why we enjoyed it.

After a week exploring the island, here are a few tips that made our beach days much easier:

  • Arrive before 9:30 a.m. at popular beaches in July and August to secure parking.
  • Pack snorkeling masks—many beaches have incredible underwater life.
  • Bring water shoes, especially if you plan to visit rocky coves like Cala Saladeta or Cala Xarraca.

  • Spend at least one evening at Cala Comte or Cala d’Hort to experience one of Ibiza’s unforgettable sunsets.

Best Things to Do in Ibiza: Dalt Vila, Es Vedrà, Boat Trips & Hidden Gems

If there’s one thing that surprised us during our week in Ibiza, it’s how incredibly diverse the island is.

Most people arrive expecting beach clubs and nightlife. We found medieval streets, spectacular viewpoints, crystal-clear coves, scenic hikes, hidden villages, family-friendly boat trips, and some of the most beautiful sunsets we’ve ever seen in Europe.

Whether you’re visiting Ibiza with kids, as a couple, or on your first trip to the island, these are the experiences we genuinely recommend.

Explore Dalt Vila – Ibiza’s UNESCO World Heritage Site

If you only visit one cultural attraction in Ibiza, make it Dalt Vila.

Perched above Ibiza Town, this fortified old city dates back more than 2,500 years and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.

Walking through its cobbled streets feels like stepping into another century.

Instead of modern beach clubs and boutiques, you’ll discover:

  • medieval walls
  • ancient gateways
  • hidden plazas
  • boutique cafés
  • whitewashed houses
  • breathtaking sea views

It’s one of those places where you forget to check your phone because every corner is worth photographing.

Why families will love Dalt Vila

Although there are plenty of uphill streets, our kids enjoyed exploring the fortress.

It almost feels like walking through a castle.

Highlights include:

  • Cathedral of Santa Maria
  • Portal de ses Taules
  • Bastions overlooking the harbor
  • Small artisan shops
  • Ice cream stops
  • Hidden viewpoints

Allow 2–3 hours.

Visit Es Vedrà – Ibiza’s Most Magical Viewpoint

No photograph truly prepares you for seeing Es Vedrà in person.

This mysterious rocky island rises dramatically from the Mediterranean and has inspired countless legends.

Some believe it’s one of the most magnetic places on Earth.

Others associate it with Atlantis.

Whether or not the myths are true, the scenery is unforgettable.

Best viewpoint

The easiest viewpoint is located near:

Torre des Savinar

A short walk leads to panoramic views over:

  • Es Vedrà
  • turquoise water

Take a Boat Trip Around Ibiza

It’s iconic.

But for us, nothing compares to watching sunset directly from Cala Comte beach.

The colors are unbelievable.

The sea changes from turquoise to orange, pink and deep blue within minutes.

It’s one of those moments you’ll remember long after leaving Ibiza.

Watch Sunset at Benirràs Beach

Benirràs is famous for its relaxed atmosphere.

Traditionally, drummers gathered here at sunset.

Although regulations have changed over the years, it’s still one of Ibiza’s most atmospheric beaches.

Arrive early.

Parking fills quickly.

Visit Punta Arabí Hippy Market

Located in Es Canar.

This is the oldest hippie market in Ibiza.

You’ll find:

  • clothing
  • handmade bags
  • ceramics
  • local artwork
  • souvenirs

If you’re staying in Es Canar—as we did—it’s an easy walk.

Explore Ibiza by Car

Renting a car completely changed our trip.

Initially we considered relying on buses.

After driving around the island, we’re so glad we rented one.

Some of our favorite places simply aren’t easy to reach by public transport.

Having a car allowed us to:

Ibiza with Kids – The Ultimate Family Guide (2026)

One of the biggest surprises during our week in Ibiza was discovering how family-friendly the island actually is. Before visiting, we associated Ibiza with beach clubs, nightlife, and luxury parties. But after exploring the island with our two children (12 and 9 years old), we realized there’s another side to Ibiza—one filled with calm beaches, nature, charming villages, outdoor adventures, and unforgettable family experiences.

In this guide, we’re sharing everything we learned during our July 2026 trip to help you plan a stress-free family holiday.

Why Ibiza Is Perfect for Families

Many families overlook Ibiza in favor of Mallorca or Menorca, but after visiting all three Balearic Islands, we believe Ibiza deserves a place at the top of your list.

What makes Ibiza so special for families?

✔ Small island with short driving distances

✔ Calm, shallow beaches

✔ Crystal-clear water ideal for snorkeling

✔ Safe atmosphere

✔ Plenty of family-friendly hotels

✔ Great restaurants with children’s menus

✔ Outdoor activities for every age

✔ Beautiful old towns and villages

✔ Excellent healthcare

✔ Warm Mediterranean climate

Unlike many destinations where attractions are spread far apart, in Ibiza you can drive from one side of the island to the other in about an hour. That means less time in the car and more time enjoying your holiday.

Our Family Rating: ★★★★★ (9.8/10)

Is Ibiza Good for Babies?

Absolutely.

Although we traveled with older children, we noticed that Ibiza is exceptionally stroller-friendly in many areas.

Parents with babies will appreciate:

  • Boardwalks along many beaches
  • Supermarkets everywhere
  • Baby changing facilities

  • Easy airport transfers

Best Beaches for Babies

Is Ibiza Good for Teenagers?

  • Kayaking
  • Cliff viewpoints

What We’d Do Differently Next Time

Every trip teaches you something.

If we return to Ibiza, we would:

✔ Stay for 10 days instead of 7.

✔ Spend more time in Portinatx.

✔ Book another catamaran trip.

✔ Explore more hiking trails.

✔ Visit more inland villages.

✔ Wake up earlier for the beaches.

Many beaches become much busier after 11:00 a.m., especially in July and August.

Our Honest Opinion

After traveling across Spain for years and visiting destinations like Mallorca, Menorca, Costa Brava, Costa Daurada, the Canary Islands, and the Costa del Sol, Ibiza genuinely exceeded our expectations.

Yes, it has world-famous nightlife—but that’s only one side of the island.

What we’ll remember most are the peaceful mornings at hidden coves, the crystal-clear Mediterranean water, the golden sunsets, the family-friendly atmosphere, and the freedom of exploring one beautiful beach after another.

For families, Ibiza offers the perfect balance of relaxation, adventure, and convenience. It’s easy to navigate, incredibly scenic, and full of experiences that children and adults can enjoy together.

Without a doubt, Ibiza has become one of our favorite family destinations in Spain, and it’s a place we’d happily return to again.

Ibiza Travel Tips & Planning Guide

Before You Go

One of the things we appreciated most about Ibiza is how easy it is to organize. The island has excellent infrastructure, clear roads, plenty of accommodation options, and countless activities.

However, there are a few things worth planning before your trip.

✔ Book accommodation early (especially July and August).

✔ Reserve your rental car in advance.

✔ Popular restaurants and boat trips often sell out.

✔ Download offline Google Maps before arriving.

✔ Make a list of the beaches you want to visit.

Trust us—you’ll end up discovering more beaches than you originally planned!

Passport & Entry Requirements

If you’re traveling from the European Union or Schengen Area, entering Ibiza is as simple as flying to any other Spanish destination.

Visitors from outside the EU should check Spain’s latest visa requirements before traveling.

Always carry:

  • Passport or national ID
  • Driving licence
  • Travel insurance details
  • Hotel confirmations
  • Car rental documents

We also recommend keeping digital copies stored in the cloud.

Flights to Ibiza

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) is located approximately 7 km from Ibiza Town.

Direct flights operate from many European cities during the summer season.

From Barcelona, flights take approximately:

50–60 minutes

From Madrid:

1 hour 15 minutes

During summer, booking 2–4 months in advance usually offers the best prices.

Ibiza Airport

Ibiza Airport is surprisingly compact and easy to navigate.

Facilities include:

  • Cafés
  • Restaurants
  • Duty Free shops
  • Car rental desks
  • Taxi rank
  • Bus connections
  • ATM machines

Because the airport is relatively small, security queues are generally shorter than at larger European airports, although summer weekends can still be busy.

Renting a Car

If there’s one piece of advice we can give, it’s this:

Rent a car.

Although buses connect the main towns, many of Ibiza’s most beautiful beaches are much easier to reach by car.

During our trip, having a rental car allowed us to visit several beaches in a single day, stop at scenic viewpoints, and explore charming inland villages at our own pace.

Driving in Ibiza

Driving is straightforward.

Roads are generally:

✔ Well maintained

✔ Clearly signposted

✔ Safe

Speed limits:

  • Urban areas: 50 km/h
  • Secondary roads: 90 km/h
  • Motorways: 100–120 km/h

Keep in mind that some roads leading to hidden coves are narrow, so drive slowly and be patient.

Ferries

Ibiza is well connected to neighboring islands.

Popular ferry routes include:

  • Formentera
  • Mallorca
  • Menorca
  • Barcelona
  • Valencia
  • Dénia

The most popular day trip is Formentera, famous for its Caribbean-like beaches and turquoise water.

Weather Throughout the Year

SeasonTemperatureSwimming
Spring18–24°CSometimes
Summer28–34°CExcellent
Autumn22–28°CVery good
Winter14–18°CToo cold for most

July and August are the hottest and busiest months.

May, June, September, and early October offer warm weather with fewer crowds.

Best Apps for Ibiza

We used these almost every day:

  • Google Maps
  • Google Translate
  • WhatsApp
  • Windy (great for checking sea conditions)
  • GetYourGuide
  • Uber is limited, so local taxi apps may be more useful

SIM Cards & Internet

Mobile coverage across Ibiza is excellent.

If you’re traveling from outside Europe, an eSIM is one of the easiest options.

Advantages:

✔ Instant activation

✔ No physical SIM card

✔ Fast mobile data

✔ Works immediately after landing

Parking Guide

Parking can be one of the biggest challenges during the summer.

Free Parking

Usually available:

  • Early morning
  • Smaller villages
  • Inland areas

Paid Parking

Common near:

  • Cala Comte
  • Cala Bassa
  • Dalt Vila
  • Ibiza Town

Our advice:

Arrive before 9:30 a.m. if visiting popular beaches.

Gas Stations

Fuel stations are widely available.

Most accept:

✔ Credit cards

✔ Debit cards

✔ Contactless payment

We rarely had to wait more than a few minutes. The cheapest one was Euroski gas station.

Hidden Costs

Many travelers forget to budget for:

  • Beach parking
  • Sunbed rentals
  • Boat excursions
  • Tourist tax (charged by accommodation)
  • Fuel
  • Toll-free but longer scenic routes
  • Restaurant service charges at premium venues

How Much Cash Should You Carry?

Spain is largely cashless.

We paid almost everything by card.

Still, carrying €50–100 in cash is useful for:

  • Local markets
  • Small cafés
  • Beach kiosks
  • Parking meters

ATM Fees

Most ATMs charge a withdrawal fee for foreign cards.

If possible:

  • Withdraw larger amounts less frequently.
  • Check whether your bank reimburses international ATM fees.

Tipping in Ibiza

Tipping isn’t mandatory but is appreciated.

Typical amounts:

  • Restaurants: 5–10%
  • Taxi: Round up the fare
  • Hotel staff: €2–5
  • Tour guides: Depending on the experience

Is Ibiza Safe?

Yes.

We felt safe throughout our trip.

Even in busy tourist areas, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming.

As always:

  • Don’t leave valuables visible in your car.
  • Keep an eye on personal belongings in crowded areas.
  • Use hotel safes for passports and valuables.

Common Tourist Scams

Ibiza is generally safe, but be aware of:

  • Unofficial parking attendants
  • Counterfeit designer goods
  • Overpriced taxis that don’t use meters

Always use licensed taxis or reputable transport apps.

Medical Care

Healthcare on the island is excellent.

There are:

  • Public hospitals
  • Private clinics
  • Pharmacies in every town

Travel insurance is recommended, especially for visitors from outside the EU.

Emergency Numbers

Save these before your trip:

🚓 Police: 112

🚑 Ambulance: 112

🚒 Fire: 112

The 112 emergency service has multilingual operators.

Travel Insurance

We never travel without it.

It covers:

  • Medical emergencies
  • Lost luggage
  • Flight delays
  • Car rental excess
  • Trip cancellations

It’s a small cost that can provide significant peace of mind.

Things Nobody Tells You About Ibiza

  • The island is much greener than many people expect.
  • Every beach has its own personality.
  • Inland villages are just as charming as the coastline.
  • Sunset becomes a daily ritual.
  • Even in peak season, you can still find peaceful coves if you start early.
  • Ibiza feels surprisingly relaxed outside the main party areas.
  • Families are everywhere, especially on the east coast.

Our Personal Tips After One Week

If we were planning the same trip again, we would:

  • Stay at least 10 days.
  • Spend more time exploring the north of the island.
  • Book another catamaran cruise.
  • Visit even more local markets.
  • Leave some free time each day instead of trying to follow a packed itinerary.

Some of our favorite memories came from spontaneous stops at viewpoints, quiet beaches, and small cafés we hadn’t planned to visit.

Final Thoughts

After visiting many destinations across Europe as a family, Ibiza genuinely exceeded our expectations.

Before this trip, we knew Ibiza mainly for its nightlife. What we discovered was something completely different: peaceful coves with crystal-clear water, charming villages full of character, scenic coastal drives, and countless places where families can slow down and enjoy quality time together.

Traveling with our children (13 and 10 years old) gave us a different perspective. We looked for calm beaches, easy walks, family-friendly restaurants, and hotels where everyone could relax—and Ibiza delivered on every level.

One of the biggest surprises was the variety the island offers. Every day felt different. One morning we were exploring hidden coves, the next we were wandering through the historic streets of Dalt Vila, and by evening we were watching the sun disappear behind Es Vedrà. It never felt repetitive.

If you’re planning your first trip, don’t think of Ibiza only as a party destination. It’s also one of the most beautiful Mediterranean islands for families, couples, and anyone who loves combining beach days with culture, nature, and unforgettable scenery.

For us, Ibiza is a place we’d happily return to—and next time, there are still plenty of hidden beaches and villages waiting to be explored.
