PlWe booked the Belaroïa for one reason: we were arriving at Montpellier Saint-Roch by train with two children and luggage, and I did not want to work out trams at the end of a travel day.
It is a four-minute walk from the station — 367 metres. That turned out to be exactly as good as it sounds.
Here’s the full review, with the numbers I couldn’t find anywhere before we booked.
Does a family of four fit in a Junior Suite?
This is the question, so here’s the answer first.
Yes. The Junior Suite is 31 m² and has:
- a king-size bed, 180 × 200 cm
- a sofa bed, 160 × 200 cm
A 160 cm sofa bed is the width of a standard double. Two children share it comfortably. Two adults would too, at a push. So four people sleep in one room without a rollaway and without connecting rooms, which is the thing that usually breaks a family booking in a French city hotel.
Also in the room: a separate living area, a desk, a dressing room, and a large bathroom that has both a walk-in shower and a bathtub — you don’t have to choose. With a nine-year-old at the end of a long day, the bath mattered more than I expected.
The rest of the fittings: flat-screen TV with Chromecast (so the boys watched their own things), coffee machine and kettle, individually controlled air conditioning, safe, non-smoking. A cot is available on request if you’re travelling with a baby.
Getting there — the reason to book this hotel
- Montpellier Saint-Roch station: 367 m, about 4 minutes on foot. Flat, no stairs, no tram change.
- Trams stop essentially at the door.
- City centre: 0.3 km. The Place de la Comédie is a walk, not a journey.
- Montpellier–Méditerranée airport (Fréjorgues): 10 km.
- A9 motorway: 8 km.
- Parking: the hotel has private enclosed parking. [ALA — did you use it, and what did it cost per night?]
If you’re arriving by train with children, this location is the whole argument for the hotel. We walked out of Saint-Roch and were in the room in under ten minutes.
The building — it’s a piece of architecture, and it’s worth knowing
Most hotel reviews skip this. It’s actually the most interesting thing about the place.
The Belaroïa is a building, not just a hotel. It was designed by the French architect Manuelle Gautrand and completed in 2019, on the site of the station’s old multi-storey car park, as the first block of the Nouveau Saint-Roch quarter. Ten storeys, about 34 metres, with a hollowed-out middle section that gives the hotel floors an interior terrace.
It’s stacked: a brasserie and business floors at the bottom, hotel in the middle, apartments on top. And the hotel section holds two different hotels — which brings us to the thing nobody writes about.
The bit nobody tells you: there are two hotels in this building
The Campanile Montpellier Saint-Roch is in the same complex as the Belaroïa, and the two share services and spaces — restaurants, relaxation areas, the lot.
So if the Belaroïa’s rates don’t work for your dates, you can often book the Campanile in the same building, at three-star rates, and still be four minutes from the station with access to the shared spaces. That’s a genuinely useful thing to know and I have never seen it written down.

Breakfast
Breakfast at the Belaroïa is called Mattina and it’s a buffet laid out as three areas — a bakery counter, a market counter with seasonal produce and homemade dishes, and a coffee counter.
Open to non-residents as well as guests
Price: €24 per person, all you can eat
Monday–Friday: 6:30–10:00
Weekends: 7:00–10:30
This time we didn’t take the option with breakfast, but we had the coffee machine in the room and we could take our first coffee straight in the room.

Doesn’t have:
A swimming pool. There is no pool at the Belaroïa. If your children’s first question on arrival is “where’s the pool,” this is not your hotel — book somewhere else rather than have that conversation in the lobby. The spa, sauna and hammam are adult facilities.

Would we book it again?
The location and the Junior Suite layout are the reasons to book this. The absence of a pool and a €24 breakfast are the reasons to think twice. On a one- or two-night city stop with a train arrival, the first set wins easily. On a five-night stay with children who want to swim, it doesn’t.

No. There is no swimming pool at the Belaroïa. The hotel has a spa with tea-based treatments, a sauna, a hammam and a fitness room, but these are adult facilities. If a pool matters to your children, this is not the right hotel.
How much is breakfast at the Belaroïa?
The breakfast buffet, called Mattina, is €24 per person and is open to non-residents as well as guests. It runs from 6:30am to 10:00am Monday to Friday and from 7:00am to 10:30am at weekends. Check current pricing and whether a children’s rate applies when you book.
