What is the Platinum Heritage desert safari?
It’s an evening safari built around conservation and Bedouin culture rather than adrenaline. According to the tour listings, you’re picked up at your hotel in the afternoon, transferred to the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, and driven through the reserve in an open-top 1950s Land Rover with a guide, with up to about 10 guests per vehicle. The evening includes a falcon show at sunset, then dinner at the camp with camel rides, henna, Arabic coffee and traditional music and dance.

Desert safari without dune bashing: why it matters for families
Dune bashing is a fast, rough ride over the dunes. It’s fun for teenagers and adults, but most standard safari operators set a minimum age or warn against it for young children, and it’s miserable for anyone who gets carsick. A wildlife drive at walking pace removes that problem, so the whole family can do the same evening.
From the planning side: if your kids are 5 to 11 and you want one “desert evening” in Dubai, this is the safer choice. If you have teenagers who want the thrill, a standard dune-bashing safari will feel more exciting to them.

About 7 hours from hotel pick-up to drop-off. With young kids, that’s a late night, so plan a slow morning the next day.

It costs more than a standard dune-bashing safari, and you’re paying for the vintage cars, the reserve and a smaller group.

- Layers: the desert gets cool after sunset, especially from November to March.
- Closed shoes for the sand.
- Sun cream and hats for the afternoon start.
- The tour includes an “adventure pack” with a headscarf and a refillable water bottle, according to the listings.
Is the Platinum Heritage desert safari worth it?
