Picasso Museum Barcelona: Under-18s Go Free (2026 Guide)

Quick answer

  • Under-18s enter free, every day, with no advance booking. Bring ID for them at the door.
  • Adults pay €14 online or €15 at the ticket office.
  • Free for everyone on the first Sunday of the month all day, on Thursday afternoons 16:00–19:00 in winter, and Thursday to Saturday 19:00–21:00 in summer.
  • The free slots open exactly four days before your visit date, at 10:00 Barcelona time — and they go quickly. Set an alarm.
  • Closed Mondays. Carrer Montcada, in El Born.

I went with our kids twice, once on the first Sunday of the month during pandemics, and the second time with kids and my parents who came to Barcelona. Both times we went for free.

Where to stay in Barcelona — our three picks

Budget · Gràcia
Generator Barcelona – private family rooms at hostel prices, five minutes from Passeig de Gràcia and metro Diagonal (L3/L5). Rooms are small and the bar downstairs is lively, so ask for a higher floor.

Mid-range · Via Laietana
H10 Cubik – on the edge of the Gothic Quarter, with the Atic rooftop terrace and pool. You can walk to the cathedral, the beach and the Born from the door, which saves you metro tickets all week.

Luxury · Eixample
The Cotton House Hotel, Autograph Collection – the old cotton guild building on Gran Via, a ten-minute walk from Casa Batlló and the Sagrada Família side of Eixample. Quiet, grown-up, and the rooftop is the reason to book it.

The free slots, and how the booking actually works

The free entry times are real, but they are not walk-in.

  • Slots are released exactly four days before the visit date, at 10:00 Barcelona time
  • They’re booked through the museum’s own site
  • Popular slots go within minutes of release
  • There are also four open-door days a year: 4 January, 12 February, 17 May and 24 September

Both times we went, I had to do the prior booking on their site. After pandemics, this rule was almost for every museum, and we were prepared for this.

Is it worth it with children?

I think it is worth it to go with kids who are into art, who enjoy painting, drawing or doing things. Happy to say that by that time Damian enjoyed drawing a lot and he enjoyed the museum. Marc instead, was too small, and not into it, and he got bored.

How long, and what to see

The museum is not big, 1h for sure it is enough if you are not an artist, and only want to learn about Picasso a little bit more. Of course, those who are into art, or who studied Picasso work and path, for sure will need more than 1 hour.

Getting there and making a morning of it

Carrer Montcada, in El Born, in a run of medieval palaces — the building is part of the appeal. Closed Mondays.

The museum is a five-minute walk from the Chocolate Museum and ten from Parc de la Ciutadella.
