We went to Singapore in late April, flying overnight from Barcelona and landing on the 24th. We checked into our hotel on Sentosa and went straight to the pool, because it was my birthday and my younger son’s, and because it was too hot to do anything else. A few days later a storm hit so hard on the bus to Chinatown that we couldn’t see out of the windows. By the time we got off, it had stopped.
That’s April in Singapore with kids: hot, humid, and interrupted by rain that comes and goes faster than you can change plans. This post covers what the weather actually does in April, how to build a day around it, what to pack, and what to do when it pours.
Singapore in April: the short version
- Temperature: around 25.3°C at night and 32.4°C in the afternoon, with a 24-hour mean of 28.2°C.
- Rain: 164.3 mm over about 15 rain days, and around 20 days with thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon and early evening.
- Humidity: a mean of 82.6%, and up to about 95% in the early hours.
- What that means with kids: plan mornings outdoors, middle of the day indoors or in the pool, and evenings out again.
- Book a hotel with a pool. In April it isn’t a luxury, it’s your afternoon plan.

What is the weather like in Singapore in April?
April falls in the inter-monsoon period, between the northeast and southwest monsoons. Winds are light and variable, afternoons are hot, and thunderstorms build in the afternoon and early evening. Here’s what the national weather service records for April:
| April averages | |
|---|---|
| Daily minimum | 25.3°C |
| Daily maximum | 32.4°C |
| 24-hour mean | 28.2°C |
| Rainfall | 164.3 mm |
| Rain days | About 15 |
| Thunderstorm days | About 20 |
| Mean relative humidity | 82.6% (about 62% at its lowest, 96% at its highest) |
Two numbers matter more than the rest. Twenty thunderstorm days means most days bring at least one, so you should plan for it instead of hoping. And 82.6% humidity means 32°C in Singapore feels heavier than 32°C in southern Europe, and children feel that before adults do.
The good news is that April rain is usually short. It’s not a grey day; it’s an hour of real downpour and then sunshine again.

Is April a good time to visit Singapore with kids?
Yes, with one adjustment: you plan the day around the middle of it, not through it.
Singapore sits just north of the equator, so there’s no cold season and no dry season to aim for. Every month is hot, humid and rainy to some degree, which means April is as good as most, and the weather is not a reason to choose different dates. The thing to get right is the shape of your days.
The shape of the day I would plan:
- Out early. Beaches, gardens and walking before about 11:00.
- Indoors or in the water from midday to late afternoon. The hotel pool, an aquarium, a mall, a dome.
- Out again after 17:00. This is when Singapore is at its best with children, and both of the big light shows are in the evening anyway.
What to do in Singapore when it rains
You’ll need at least one of these, so book or plan them for the afternoons:
- Singapore Oceanarium, Sentosa. 22 zones, indoors, about S$50–55 per adult for visitors. The best plan for a wet afternoon.
- Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay. Both are indoors and cool; the combo is S$46 per adult and S$32 per child aged 3–12, and the Cloud Forest alone is S$26 and S$22.
- Jewel Changi Airport. The Rain Vortex waterfall is free and indoors, Canopy Park is S$8, and you don’t need a flight that day to go. See our Changi with kids guide.
- Hawker centres and malls. Cheap, air-conditioned or covered, and a proper meal for a family.
- Your hotel pool. Nobody minds rain when they’re already wet, as long as there’s no lightning. Pools usually close during thunderstorms, which in April is often.
What to pack for Singapore in April with kids
- A light rain jacket or a small umbrella per person. Storms arrive fast.
- Quick-dry clothes, and more T-shirts than you think. Nothing dries on a hotel balcony in 82% humidity.
- A spare set of clothes in the day bag for each child.
- Sunscreen, and a hat each. Cloudy still burns here.
- Mosquito repellent, especially for garden walks and evenings.
- Water shoes or sandals that survive being soaked.
- Refillable water bottles. Singapore’s tap water is drinkable, and you’ll get through several litres a day.
- A light layer for indoors. Air conditioning in malls, the MRT and restaurants is fierce, and going from 32°C to a cold shopping centre is how kids end up shivering.
- Swimwear at the top of the case, because after an overnight flight the pool is where you’ll go first.

Flying in: arriving in April with children
We flew overnight and landed in the morning, which is normal on the European routes. Hotel check-in is usually mid-afternoon, so you’re facing several hot hours with luggage and jet-lagged kids.
What I’d do: ask the hotel about early check-in, and if they can’t, leave the bags and spend the first hours somewhere cool or wet rather than sightseeing. Our first hours in Singapore were at the pool with a birthday to celebrate, and it was the right call. Our flight itself is reviewed here: Emirates economy from Barcelona to Singapore with kids.
What we’d do differently in April
- Start earlier. The morning is the usable part of the day, and every hour you lose to a slow start you pay back in heat.
- Treat rain as a schedule, not a surprise. Keep one indoor plan per day in your pocket.
- Take the taxi. When a storm arrives with tired children, the fare is worth it.
- Don’t over-plan the days. Two or three things a day is plenty in this heat, and that’s what our 2-day Singapore itinerary is built around.
Where to stay in Singapore in April
In this weather the hotel is part of the itinerary, so pick one with a pool the kids can use in the afternoon. We spent most of our week at Village Hotel Sentosa, which has four pools, and then moved into the city. The box at the top of this post has a budget, mid-range and luxury option.

Singapore in April FAQ
What is the weather like in Singapore in April?
April is hot and humid. The daily minimum averages 25.3°C and the daily maximum 32.4°C, with a 24-hour mean of 28.2°C. April brings 164.3 mm of rain over about 15 rain days, with thunderstorms on around 20 days, usually in the afternoon and early evening, and mean relative humidity of 82.6%.
Is April a good time to visit Singapore with kids?
Yes. Singapore sits just north of the equator, so there is no dry season to aim for and April is as good as most months. What matters is the shape of your day: go out early, stay indoors or in the pool through the middle of the day, and go out again after 5pm.
Does it rain all day in Singapore in April?
No. April rain usually comes as a short, heavy thunderstorm in the afternoon or early evening, followed by sunshine again, rather than a grey day. Keep one indoor plan in reserve each day and you will rarely lose more than an hour.
What should I pack for Singapore in April with kids?
Pack a light rain jacket or small umbrella for each person, quick-dry clothes and more T-shirts than you expect, a spare set of clothes in the day bag for each child, sunscreen and hats, mosquito repellent, water shoes, refillable bottles, and a light layer for fierce indoor air conditioning.
What can you do in Singapore with kids when it rains?
Singapore Oceanarium on Sentosa (about S$50–55 per adult) and the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay (S$46 per adult and S$32 per child for both) are the best indoor options. Jewel Changi Airport is free to walk around with its indoor waterfall, Canopy Park costs S$8, and hawker centres and malls are cheap and air-conditioned.
How hot does it feel in Singapore in April?
Afternoon temperatures around 32°C combine with mean humidity of about 83%, so it feels hotter and heavier than the same temperature in a drier climate. Children feel it before adults do, which is why a hotel pool and a midday break matter more here than in most destinations.
Do you need mosquito repellent in Singapore?
It is worth packing. Mosquitoes are most noticeable around gardens, green walkways and in the evening, so repellent is useful for garden visits, nature trails and evenings outdoors with children.
