We booked this one for a basketball weekend in June, with no plans beyond the hotel itself — which turned out to be a good way to see it, because the hotel is the interesting part.
Hotel Parada is built into the old Puigcerdà railway station. You don’t stay near the station; you stay in it. And once you know that, the whole proposition changes: this is the hotel that makes a car-free ski trip from Barcelona actually work.

Who should stay here
Families doing La Molina without a car. This is the strongest case and nobody’s making it. Barcelona → Puigcerdà on the R3, sleep at the station, then 23 minutes up to La Molina each morning. No mountain driving, no snow chains, no parking.
Anyone who wants a town rather than a resort. La Molina is a ski station; Puigcerdà is a town of restaurants, shops and a lake, which matters a lot over four or five nights with children.
People skiing both La Molina and Masella. Puigcerdà sits within easy reach of both.
Trains-obsessed children. You are sleeping in a railway station. Ours would have found this the best thing about the trip.
Who shouldn’t
Anyone wanting ski-in, ski-out. You’re 15 minutes down the valley. Anyone who wants to self-cater. These are hotel rooms — for a kitchen, Aparthotel Guitart is at the lift. Anyone wanting a big hotel with full board and entertainment. It’s a small, practical 3-star.
Location: the station is the point
Plaça de l’Estació s/n, Puigcerdà.
Puigcerdà is the main town of the Cerdanya valley, right on the French border, and Hotel Parada occupies its old railway station — a building from the era when this line was built through the Pyrenees.

Parking: there’s free city parking right by the station, which is what we used and where we had no trouble finding a space. The hotel also lists parking of its own — check when you book whether that’s free or charged.
The car-free ski trip: how it actually works
This is the section that should carry the article, and it’s the one your current version doesn’t have at all.
A ski weekend at La Molina without ever getting in a car:
- R3 Rodalies from Barcelona to Puigcerdà. Around three hours, scenic the whole way up the valley.
- Walk out of the station and into the hotel. That’s the transfer.
- Each morning, train to La Molina — 23 minutes, around €2–5, roughly five services a day, so check the timetable and build the day around it.
- Evenings in Puigcerdà — a real town with restaurants, rather than a resort with two bars.
Check the La Molina train times carefully. Five services a day means the timetable dictates your day; miss the last one back and it’s a taxi.
Also ask about the Skitren — the combined Rodalies + lift pass ticket. It’s usually quoted from Barcelona, but worth asking whether it works from Puigcerdà.
The room
We booked room-only. The room was comfortable and practical — cosy bedding, a desk area, a clean bathroom. Everything needed for a short stay, and it worked well as a base for the weekend.

Food
We booked room-only and didn’t use the hotel’s dining, so I can’t review it.
What I can say is that it barely matters here, and that’s a genuine advantage of the location: Puigcerdà is a working town and you’re within walking distance of plenty of restaurants and cafés. For families who like choosing where to eat rather than being fed at a set time, room-only in a town beats half board in a resort.
Would we return?
Yes — and specifically, in winter, which we haven’t done yet.
Our stay was a simple, functional June weekend and the hotel did exactly what we needed. But everything that makes it interesting is a ski-season proposition: the train to La Molina, the town in the evenings, the spa after a day on the slopes. That’s the trip I’d book.
