Flotarium Barcelona Review: Prices, What It’s Like, Worth It?

Quick answer

  • A flotation session costs €45 for 50 minutes. Packs bring it down — three sessions are €120, five are €185.
  • Combined packs: flotation and chair massage €65, flotation and light therapy €57, or the Triple Sensory Immersion (all three) at €55.
  • A chair massage on its own is €20 for 25 minutes.
  • Gift vouchers last 12 months and are transferable — which is how I ended up there.
  • First time floating? Shower first, don’t shave that day, and know you can get out whenever you like.

For my 35th birthday, my husband gave me a session at Flotarium Barcelona. It turned out to be one of the most genuinely restorative things I’ve done in this city — and also one of the odder ones to describe, which is probably why most reviews of floating tell you how it felt and not what it costs or what actually happens.

This one does both.

Where to stay in Barcelona — our three picks

Budget · Gràcia
Generator Barcelona – private family rooms at hostel prices, five minutes from Passeig de Gràcia and metro Diagonal (L3/L5). Rooms are small and the bar downstairs is lively, so ask for a higher floor.

Mid-range · Via Laietana
H10 Cubik – on the edge of the Gothic Quarter, with the Atic rooftop terrace and pool. You can walk to the cathedral, the beach and the Born from the door, which saves you metro tickets all week.

Luxury · Eixample
The Cotton House Hotel, Autograph Collection – the old cotton guild building on Gran Via, a ten-minute walk from Casa Batlló and the Sagrada Família side of Eixample. Quiet, grown-up, and the rooftop is the reason to book it.

What I did

My session combined three things:

  • 20 minutes of PSIO light and sound therapy
  • A 60-minute flotation session
  • A 20-minute chair massage

That was the package I was given in 2024. The current menu is slightly different — the standard float is now 50 minutes, and the closest equivalent to my session is the Triple Sensory Immersion. Prices for everything are further down.

Arriving

From the moment I arrived I felt an immediate sense of calm. The space is modern and minimalist — soft lighting, clean lines, a quiet atmosphere that does the work before anything starts.

The staff welcomed me and explained each part of the session in detail, which mattered more than I expected, because floating was completely new to me and I had no idea what I was walking into.

PSIO light and sound therapy: 20 minutes

The first part was a 20-minute PSIO session. You wear special glasses that emit gentle light patterns synchronised with calming sounds and a guided meditation.

It cleared my head, took the edge off, and put me into something close to a meditative state. The rhythmic combination of light and sound was more powerful than I expected, and it set up the float that followed rather than just filling time before it.

The flotation session: the main event

The tank was spacious and private, filled with warm water saturated with Epsom salts so the body floats without any effort at all. I lay back and was immediately weightless.

With almost no light and no sound, the lack of sensory input let me disconnect completely — from noise, from the day, from the low-level physical tension I hadn’t noticed I was carrying. Time genuinely disappeared. When it ended I felt refreshed, calm and remarkably light.

Chair massage: 20 minutes

The last part was a chair massage focused on back, neck and shoulders. Short, but highly effective — the therapist found the tense areas immediately and worked on them precisely. It grounded me physically after the float, which was the right way to finish.

The maths worth knowing: one float is €45, but three are €120 — €40 each. If you think you’ll go back, the pack pays for itself on the second visit. Vouchers are valid for 12 months and transferable, so a three-pack also splits neatly as a gift.

Buying it as a gift

This is how I came to be there in the first place, so: yes, gift vouchers exist, they’re valid for twelve months, and they’re transferable — which means the person you give it to can pass it on if floating isn’t for them.

If you’re buying for someone who’s never floated, I’d give one of the combined packs rather than a bare float. The light therapy or the massage either side gives the session a shape, and makes the whole thing feel less like being left alone in a dark box for an hour.

What to know before your first float

Nobody told me most of this in advance and it would have helped:

  • Shower before you get in. It’s part of the routine, not an optional extra.
  • Don’t shave that day. Epsom-salt water on a fresh cut stings sharply, and it’s the classic first-timer mistake.
  • You can get out whenever you want. Knowing that is usually enough to stop anyone needing to.
  • The salt gets everywhere, including your hair. Shower properly afterwards.
  • Don’t plan anything demanding after. You come out floaty and slow, which is the point — going straight into a meeting wastes it.

Who shouldn’t book it

The honest counterweight to a good review. Floating is a small, enclosed, dark, quiet space, and if you’re strongly claustrophobic that’s a real consideration rather than something to push through. The staff will talk you through the options, and you can leave the tank at any point — but it’s worth knowing what you’re booking.

It’s also an adults’ thing. This is not a family activity, and I wouldn’t book it for children.

Is Flotarium Barcelona worth it?

Yes — and more than I expected to think.

At €45 for a float, or €55 for the triple session, it isn’t cheap, but it’s in line with an hour of any decent treatment in Barcelona and it does something a massage doesn’t. The combination of light therapy, floating and massage works on the mental side and the physical side in one visit, and I came out genuinely reset rather than just relaxed.

I’d book it again, and I’d give it as a present — which, given how I got there, is probably the strongest thing I can say about it.

Flotarium Barcelona: FAQ

How much does Flotarium Barcelona cost?

A single 50-minute flotation session is €45. Packs are cheaper per session — three for €120, five for €185, ten for €330. A 25-minute chair massage is €20 on its own, flotation with a chair massage is €65, flotation with light therapy is €57, and the Triple Sensory Immersion combining all three is €55. Prices correct September 2026.

What is flotation therapy?

Floating in warm water saturated with Epsom salts, in a quiet, low-light tank. The salt makes you float effortlessly and the lack of sensory input lets your body and mind switch off completely. A standard session lasts 50 minutes.

Is floating safe for first-timers?

Yes. It was my first time and the staff explained every stage beforehand. The things worth knowing in advance: shower before you get in, avoid shaving that day because salt water stings fresh cuts, and you can leave the tank whenever you want.

Can you buy Flotarium as a gift?

Yes. Gift vouchers are valid for twelve months and are transferable, so they can be passed on. For someone who has never floated, a combined pack with light therapy or a massage makes a better present than a bare flotation session.

What is PSIO light and sound therapy?

You wear glasses that emit gentle light patterns synchronised with calming sounds and a guided meditation. It takes about 20 minutes and works well as a way into a flotation session rather than as a standalone treatment.

Who should not try floating?

Anyone strongly claustrophobic should think carefully, since the tank is an enclosed, dark, quiet space — though you can leave it at any point and the staff will talk you through the options. It is also an adults’ treatment rather than a family activity.
