London was the destination of our very first family getaway — and it was unforgettable. It was our first trip outside Spain without the safety net of grandparents or relatives, and Damian was only five months old. We were nervous, excited, and determined to share our passion for travel with him.
Traveling with a newborn is often discouraged, but once your baby is around 6 months old, city breaks become easier — especially with a stroller and some careful planning. London turned out to be an excellent choice: safe, exciting, and surprisingly baby-friendly. Here’s everything we learned and the travel tips we wish we had known before boarding that flight.

Preparing for Your Baby’s First Flight:
Flying with a baby can feel daunting, but preparation makes all the difference. Keep all essentials — diapers, wipes, formula, bottles, pacifiers, snacks, and a change of clothes — in a carry-on that’s easy to grab.
! Insider tip: Feed your baby during takeoff and landing to help with ear pressure. Many airports, including Heathrow and Gatwick, now have family lanes at security and baby care rooms for feeding and changing.
Getting Around London with a Baby:
London has one of the best transport systems in the world, but it’s not always stroller-friendly.
- The Tube (Underground): Fast but not practical with a stroller, since many stations lack lifts. TfL’s Step-Free Tube Map is a lifesaver for parents.
- Buses: Our top choice. London buses have space for unfolded strollers and stop near major attractions.
- Taxis/Ride Apps: Black cabs are spacious, and apps like Free Now and Uber make booking easy. More expensive, but very convenient with a baby.
- Walking: Central London is surprisingly walkable, and often faster than public transport.
! Pro parent tip: Pack a lightweight stroller and a baby carrier. Between cobblestones, stairs, and crowds, you’ll likely need both.
Baby-Friendly Hotels in Central London:
A central hotel makes all the difference when traveling with children. We stayed at Danubius Hotel Regents Park, a family-friendly property just steps from Regent’s Park and well connected by bus.
👉 2025 Update: Look for hotels that offer cribs, family rooms, and late check-out. Some London hotels even provide baby welcome kits with sterilizers, bottle warmers, and high chairs.
Nearby alternative: Premier Inn Hub hotels are budget-friendly, while The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences offers luxury serviced apartments with kitchens — perfect for preparing baby meals.
Exploring London with a Baby:
Hop-On Hop-Off Sightseeing Bus
We loved The Original London Sightseeing Tour. With audio guides and stroller space, it was an easy way to see the highlights — from Buckingham Palace to Big Ben. Tickets often include a free Thames River cruise.
Thames River Cruise
One of our baby’s favorite experiences. Boats are spacious, stroller-friendly, and give you a unique view of the Tower Bridge, Greenwich, and the London Eye.
London Parks
Parks are a parent’s best friend in London. While we had limited time, Hyde Park, Regent’s Park, and St. James’s Park are perfect for stroller walks and feeding breaks.
Walking Adventures
Sometimes walking is faster than buses or taxis. Strolling along the South Bank with the Thames views is one of the best free things to do in London with a baby.
Eating Out with a Baby in London:
London restaurants are generally family-friendly, and many provide high chairs and kids’ menus. Cafés near parks like Hyde Park or Greenwich Park are especially welcoming.
👉 Formula tip: If you need hot water for baby bottles, simply ask at a café. Staff are usually happy to provide it, often for free.
Breastfeeding in London:
London is one of Europe’s most breastfeeding-friendly capitals. You’ll feel comfortable feeding your baby in cafés, museums, and parks. Many shopping centers like Westfield or Harrods have dedicated feeding rooms.
Local Culture & Fun Fact:
One of the joys of London is how locals embrace green spaces. On sunny days, you’ll see people picnicking in Hyde Park or enjoying family time in Regent’s Park — and joining them is a wonderful way to feel like a Londoner.
Fun fact: Did you know that pelicans have lived in St. James’s Park for over 350 years? They were gifted to King Charles II in 1664 by the Russian ambassador. Children (and adults!) are always fascinated to see them.
Final Thoughts — Our London Baby Break:
Our London trip didn’t go exactly as planned — with a baby, no trip ever does. But it was full of laughter, first experiences, and memories we’ll never forget. If you’re considering a first trip with your little one, London is the perfect city to start.

I love your photos and they bring back some great memories of when I lived in London. One thing I found about London there is so much to do, you invariably end up not seeing some major sites. So it is a good idea to have a plan about what to see each day and maybe see things in different zones each day. And the biggest tip of all Leicester Square and Piccadilly are only 200 metres apart – don’t take the Tube.

London is a brilliant city which is full of great things to do for adults and kids whatever the weather. There are so many great things to do in London with kids.
A huge aquarium with a multi layered shark tank! London babies love this place and we think your kids will love it too. UK law states that when travelling in taxis children under three may travel without a car seat! However I never travel without a car seat so we never take a taxi with our little one. Also if you hire car for a full day you can park your car in Yellow Park. They have minimal car parking rate across London and it is present almost everywhere.
