Hendaye with kids. French coast.

Hendaye is a French town located right on the border with Spain, just on the other side of the river from Hondarribia. In Hendaye we stayed 2 nights, as we were looking for a good accommodation and close to Donostia Airport.

We left Hendaye for our last day at Basque Country. Our two stops for that day were Hendaye and Hondarribia (more about on a previous post).

We had a beautiful accommodation with Gulf of Vizcaya views, some part of the beach of Hendaye and we perfectly saw Hondarribia from French side.

Hendaya is a frontier town and it was easy to go and come from here to visit places like San Sebastian, Zumaia, Hondarribia. It was a new experience to us, all day to stay in Spain and evenings and nights in France.

In our last morning we went right to the beach, to enjoy some sunshine and view the beauty of this place. Its 3 km long sandy beach, Ondarraitz, offers something for everyone, including families and surfers alike. We enjoyed looking at surfers who went to catch the wave, and even if it was the 25th of December, Christmas time, there were lots of surfers at the beach.

This part of Hendaye is relatively modern and it is here that you will find the Marina (on the bay side), Hotels, Casino and the Serge Blanco Thalasso Center (Serge is one the best former French International Rugby team Players).

Hendaye also boasts some gorgeous views of the flysch rock formations that are easily accessible on coastal walking paths. We loved watching those.

On our way back to the car, we went through the houses, and it was no surprise that we saw on our way lots of beautiful Basque style houses and is the origin of the so called neo-basque style.

Below some beautiful pictures of the place.

Those skies are beautiful! It looks like a relaxing place to visit. Especially for those of us looking to get a little escape from the bleary gray winter skies.
