We stayed two nights at the Campanile Marseille Saint-Antoine on 29–31 December 2025, at the start of a road trip from Barcelona with our boys, Damian (12) and Marc (9). We were meeting my sister’s family and my parents, who were driving from Turin, so we booked three rooms. Nine of us, three cars, one of them electric.
I worked in hotel distribution for 14 years, and I chose this hotel for a specific reason. Here’s what it’s like, and who should and shouldn’t book it.

Quick verdict
- Book it if: you’re driving, you have kids, and you want to park for free and charge an electric car without thinking about it.
- Skip it if: you want to walk to the Old Port. It’s in the north of the city, so you’ll drive or take public transport into the centre.
- The room: our Superior room had a double bed and a separate living room with a sofa bed, so the kids weren’t sleeping next to our bed.
- The surprise: the hotel put our three rooms side by side for our three families.
Where is the Campanile Marseille Saint-Antoine?
In Saint-Antoine, in Marseille’s 15th arrondissement, in the north of the city, just off the motorway. That’s the whole point of it. After about five hours’ drive from Barcelona, we got off the motorway and parked, without crossing Marseille in the dark looking for a car park. For sightseeing, we drove into the centre and parked underground by the Old Port (see Marseille in winter with kids).
Is the Superior room big enough for a family of four?
Yes, and it’s the reason I’d book it again. The Superior room felt more like a small apartment than a hotel room:
- Two separate spaces: a bedroom with a double bed, and a living room where the sofa bed was made up for the kids.
- A small kitchen corner: a kettle, tea, and a table where all four of us could sit together.
- Privacy: with a 12- and a 9-year-old, a door between the beds matters more every year.
That tea, ready when we arrived after a long drive, was a small thing that made a real difference.
Parking and EV charging
For a road trip, this is the best thing about the hotel. Parking is free, inside the hotel grounds. And there’s an EV charging point: we charged our Tesla there twice in two nights, which meant we left Marseille with a full battery for the drive to Montpellier. In winter, when the cold cuts your range, that’s worth a lot.
Service: three rooms side by side
Before we arrived, my sister asked for our three rooms to be close together, and they were. With kids, luggage and three families who wanted to spend the evening together, being a few steps apart made everything easier. Check-in was quick, which is all you want after a day in the car.
What it’s not
- It’s not central. You won’t walk to the Old Port or Notre-Dame de la Garde.
- It’s a chain hotel. It’s comfortable and practical, not charming. That’s what we wanted for two nights on a road trip, but not what you’d want for a romantic weekend.
Would we book it again?
Yes, for the same kind of trip: a road trip through Marseille, by car (especially an electric one), with kids. For a city break without a car, I’d stay by the Old Port instead: the Novotel Marseille Vieux-Port has family rooms and you can walk everywhere.
