Gran Hotel Luna de Granada Review: Our Family Stay
We landed in Granada on an early flight from Barcelona and were at Gran Hotel Luna de Granada long before check-in. By 11am it was already 32°C. Reception stored our bags and let us straight into the pools, and that set the tone for the three days we stayed with our two boys, then 6 and 3.
We stayed in June 2019 as part of a collaboration with the hotel, back when it was Sercotel Gran Hotel Luna de Granada. It now belongs to deLuna Hotels. The opinions are ours, and I’ve updated the practical details for 2026.
The short version
- What it is: a large 4-star hotel (365 rooms) in the modern part of Granada, run by deLuna Hotels (formerly Sercotel).
- Best for: families who want a pool to come back to after sightseeing. For Granada in summer, that’s a big deal.
- Pools: an indoor heated pool open all year (10:00–22:00) and outdoor pools for adults and children.
- Room: our family room had a separate bedroom for us and a sofa bed for the kids in the sitting area.
- Not for: anyone who wants to walk out of the door into the old town. The Alhambra is a bus ride away.
- Parking: €18.95 a night, or €15.95 a night for 3+ nights (2026).
Short on time? Our top 3 picks in Granada
Gran Hotel Luna de Granada – family rooms, pools and a kids’ area to recover in after a day of sightseeing.
Hotel Guadalupe – on the Alhambra hill, so no bus and no uphill walk with tired kids.
Parador de Granada – a former convent inside the Alhambra grounds.

Where is Gran Hotel Luna de Granada?
The hotel is at Plaza del Guitarrista Manuel Cano 2, in the modern part of the city south of the historic centre. The hotel says the old town is a ten-minute walk away. For the Alhambra and the Albaicín, we took the bus every time. With our Granada City Card the rides were included, and we never missed having a car.
From the airport: we took the airport bus, about 30 minutes, and it stops very close to the hotel.
Check-in: how the stay started
We arrived hours before check-in time. Tatiana at reception stored our luggage while the room was prepared and told us to use the pools in the meantime, which, with two kids who had been up since dawn, was exactly the right call. Check-in itself was quick. She also gave us a short overview of Granada and a few restaurant recommendations, and the reception team stayed that helpful for the whole stay.
Our family room
This is the part that sells the hotel to parents. The family room had:
- a sitting area with a sofa bed for the kids
- a separate bedroom with a queen bed for us, so we could stay up after they fell asleep
- plugs everywhere, including by the bed
- one TV
The beds were very comfortable, which matters when you’ve spent the day walking the Alhambra with a 3-year-old on your shoulders.
The bathroom
It had a bathtub rather than a walk-in shower, which is easier for bathing small children. Toiletries were provided.

The pools at Gran Hotel Luna de Granada
We used the pools every day, sometimes twice, and getting the boys out was the hardest job of the trip. There are three:
- an indoor heated pool, open all year from 10:00 to 22:00
- an outdoor children’s pool
- an outdoor adults’ pool
Granada is very hot in summer. A pool to come back to at 5pm, after a morning of monuments, is what made the city work for us with kids.

Kids’ area and activities
There’s a children’s play area with staffed entertainment. We preferred to stay with our boys, but they used the play area a lot. In 2026 the hotel lists the kids’ entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings and the evening before public holidays (17:00–23:00). If it matters to you, check the schedule for your dates.

Breakfast and food
Breakfast was a buffet included in our rate. The choice was wide enough that both boys always found something, and honestly I would have been happy to pay for it separately. Lunch and dinner were available on request in 2019; the hotel now has a gastrobar and a seasonal outdoor snack bar.

What else the hotel has in 2026
- Spa with massage rooms and a gym
- Free Wi-Fi
- Parking with EV charging (€18.95 a night; €15.95 for 3+ nights)
- Pet-friendly: cats and dogs up to 30 kg
Is Gran Hotel Luna de Granada good for families?
Yes, if you want a comfortable base with pools more than a room in the old town. The family room, the pools and the kids’ area are the reasons to book it.
Book somewhere else if:
- you want to walk everywhere. You’ll need buses or taxis for the Alhambra and the Albaicín.
- you’re after character. It’s a large modern hotel, not a boutique stay.
For us, with two small boys in June, it was right. The Alhambra day was long and hot, and the pool afterwards was what they remember.

Seems like a lovely and clean hotel! I love a hotel with a nice bathtub and pool! The pool looked like a really good size and was clean! That always relaxes a mama’s heart.

loved this review of the hotel.. while we stayed in Granada years ago, i think it was a tiny little hostel we stayed in at that time but loved our time there and look forward to another visit with the kids sometime in the future – maybe this time at this hotel you reviewed
