1 day at Parc de Ciutadella with kids. Barcelona Local Guide.

In one of the days, when school was closed, I decided to go with both kids to enjoy Parc de Ciutadella. There was some time, when little one asked for a bus ride, and older one for a camping day. I decided to combine both desires, and to make something interesting for them.

We went to Parc de Ciutadella, changing 3 buses, only Marc can enjoy the ride. Actually we live, really close, and there we can get only with 1 direct tram to this parc. And, we went for a picnic time, so Damian can enjoy it as well.

I know, you will say, camping and picnic is not the same. Anyway, the day went great and we enjoyed the day so much, that both kiddos were sooooo overwhelmed by the end of the day.

Parc de Ciutadella is one of Barcelona’s largest central green space. Its 70-plus acres, boast plenty of grassy fields, great for enjoying time with your family on a sunny day. It is full of rambling pathways lined with palm trees, museums, a lake, fountains and the city Zoo. We really recommend to visit the Zoo.

As well, the Parc de la Ciutadella is home to several other notable monuments and buildings. Many of them created for the Exposición Universal, or World Fair, in the late 1880’s.

Among them, you’ll find the early-modernist Castell dels Tres Dragons’. It was built to reflect the style of a medieval castle and currently serving as the space for the Zoological Museum, L’Hivernacle.

The Cascada, a large Baroque monument complete with pond and waterfall on which Antoni Gaudí assisted as an apprentice to the monument and park’s designer, Josep Fontsére.

We had a very relaxing time at the park. The first thing we did, was taking a typical picture of the cascade and then take our time with a picnic time. Then we did some relaxing stroll and Zoo visit we left for the next time.

It was pleasant to enjoy first day of Spring with a warm whether. And as well, enjoyed the peaceful break from the constant buzz of the city.

Looks like a great day out with the kids. You guys are certainly having better weather than we are here! It’s nice to get the kids outside and getting fresh air. Those crooked trees at the park are really neat.
