Riad Borj Dhab Fez – review. A hotel to impress in Morocco

On our recent trip to Fez, we went to somewhere quite special to us, Riad Borj Dhab. We choose a riad for different reasons. First, and most important, we wanted to feel like home, as any travel with kids is somehow exhausting. And you always look for a place to relax after your flight. I must confess, I wasn’t sure what to expect – but one thing kept me calm, it is a riad and the service has to be at its high.

Pre-Arrival & Airport Transfer

Our communication before arrival was handled directly by the riad’s manager, Mr. Saladin, who responded quickly to every question we had. He also arranged our airport transfer for a very reasonable price (€15).

🕒 Transfer time: 25–30 minutes from Fez Airport
🤝 Arrival experience: Exceptional

Because riads are located inside the medina, the car cannot stop directly in front of the entrance. Instead, staff members meet guests at the drop-off point and escort them through the narrow streets — a detail that makes all the difference, especially when arriving late and with kids.

And yes — this service is offered to every guest, not just families.

First Impressions of Riad Borj Dhab Fez

The riad was absolutely stunning. Traditional Moroccan décor, elegant craftsmanship, and a peaceful atmosphere welcomed us immediately.

What Makes a Riad Special?

Traditionally, riads were homes of wealthy families, designed around:

  • A central courtyard with a fountain
  • Multiple floors
  • Doors opening inward rather than large exterior windows
This architectural style ensured privacy, freshness, and tranquility.

Today, Riad Borj Dhab Fez blends this traditional layout with boutique-hotel comfort and highly personalized service.

Location of Riad Borj Dhab Fez.

The riad is located in the old part of the city, right in the city center. We went walking to all the main tourists attractions in Fez. Taxi stops are just 50m from the Riad. The food market is 30m from the riad.

Welcome Amenity: Moroccan Hospitality at Its Best

While we were completing arrival formalities, we were served traditional Moroccan mint tea and sweets — a warm and authentic welcome.

Because we arrived late and asked for something light to eat, the receptionist brought us milk and sweets, even though the kitchen staff had already left.
This kind of care is something you truly only experience in a riad.

Our room at Riad Borj Dhab Fez

We loved our room which was a Family Suite (with a huge king bed, 1 single bed, 1 cot). The room was located on the second floor, but, comparing with other rooms, it helds second and third floor in the same room, this means we had a room with very high walls. I can’t complain anything – housekeeping was great, the beds, bed linen was very good.

Feeling like an Arabian princess.

We loved the bathroom and the whole set up.

Breakfast at Riad Borj Dhab Fez.

Breakfast is included and normally served between 8:00 and 11:00 AM.

Due to the time difference between Barcelona and Fez, we woke up earlier than usual. We went to the lounge area, where we enjoyed the quiet morning atmosphere and took some photos.

Despite the early hour, the staff prepared breakfast earlier just for us — yet another thoughtful detail.

We were served breakfast in a private, cozy room resembling a family living room, which made the experience even more intimate and relaxing.

Food at Borj Dhab Fez

Everytime we went outside to have our lunch or dinner. Only on our second day, after a guided tour to the Volubilis, Meknes we asked girls to prepare us soup for the dinner. We came earlier that it was supposed, and when we asked for the soup, it was already prepared. 12 points again and again!

Staff at Riad Borj Dhab Fez.

As mentioned previously 12 points for their service. We felt like being at home, with a service to match. Even when my husband went to buy some fruits from the market, Hanane went with him to help him to choose the best fruits.

At the end of our stay, after Nour managed our transfer to the airport and while we were waiting for it. Hanane offered me henna painting. I was happy like a kid, it was a must-do on my wishlist for Morocco. But, with lack of time, I didn’t went to the city center to make this wish come true.
