How to Get to Ibiza

The easiest way to reach Ibiza is by plane.

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) welcomes direct flights from most major European cities throughout the year, with even more routes available during the summer season.

From Barcelona, the flight takes approximately one hour, making Ibiza one of the easiest island escapes from mainland Spain.

If you’re already travelling around Spain, ferries also operate regularly from:

Although ferries take longer than flights, they’re a great option if you’re bringing your own car, which can be particularly useful for families planning to explore the island.

Do You Need a Car in Ibiza?

Our answer is simple:

Yes.

Renting a car completely transformed our holiday.

Originally, we thought we’d spend most of our time relaxing at the hotel and nearby beach.

Instead, having a car allowed us to discover quiet coves, scenic viewpoints, charming villages, and restaurants we would never have reached otherwise.

Many of Ibiza’s most beautiful beaches are tucked away along winding coastal roads, where public transport is limited.

If you’re planning to explore more than one or two beaches, a rental car is easily the best investment you’ll make during your trip.

Our tip: Book your rental car well in advance during July and August, when availability becomes limited.

Best Time to Visit Ibiza

One of Ibiza’s biggest advantages is its long Mediterranean season.

From late spring until well into autumn, the weather is ideal for beach holidays.

The only downside was that popular beaches filled up early, making an early start worthwhile if you wanted easy parking.

One of the questions I received most often while sharing our Ibiza trip on Instagram was:

“Where should we stay in Ibiza?”

And honestly, there’s no single correct answer.

Ibiza may be a relatively small island, but every corner has its own personality. Some areas are lively and full of beach clubs, others are peaceful fishing villages where the loudest sound you’ll hear is the gentle splash of the waves.

The great thing is that you can drive across the island in about an hour, so wherever you stay, you’re never too far from your next adventure.

That said, choosing the right base will shape your holiday more than choosing the hotel itself.

During our trip in July 2026, we stayed on the island’s east coast in Es Canar, a decision we would happily make again, especially when traveling as a family.

If you’re traveling with children or simply enjoy a quieter holiday, Leonardo Royal Suites Ibiza Santa Eulalia is a fantastic choice.

From the moment we arrived, we felt we had made the right decision.

Instead of crowded party streets, we found a relaxed seaside atmosphere where families, couples, and groups of friends could all enjoy Ibiza at their own pace.

Our suite was spacious enough for the four of us, giving everyone room to unpack and settle in comfortably after days spent exploring the island.

One thing we particularly appreciated was that our stay included half board.

Breakfast gave us plenty of energy before heading out to discover new beaches, while dinner was the perfect way to unwind after spending the entire day in the sun.

For families, not having to think about finding a restaurant every evening makes a huge difference.

The hotel also offers several swimming pools, direct beach access, entertainment during the summer season, and beautiful sea views.

Why Es Canar Was the Perfect Base

Before arriving, we weren’t sure whether staying outside Ibiza Town would be the right choice.

Looking back, we wouldn’t change a thing.

Es Canar has everything we needed:

It also became the perfect starting point for our daily road trips.

Within 20 to 40 minutes we could reach many of Ibiza’s most famous beaches without changing hotels.

Another pleasant surprise was how peaceful the evenings felt.

Instead of loud nightlife, we enjoyed sunset walks along the promenade while the children played by the beach.

For our family, this was exactly the Ibiza we had hoped to discover.

If there’s one reason why we’d return to Ibiza tomorrow, it would be the beaches.

We’ve been fortunate enough to travel to many beautiful destinations across Spain—from the wild coves of Costa Brava and the golden beaches of Costa Daurada to the Canary Islands—but Ibiza surprised us in a way we didn’t expect.

The water really is that blue.

Some beaches look almost tropical, with shades of turquoise and emerald that seem unreal until you see them with your own eyes. Others are hidden between dramatic cliffs, where the scent of pine trees mixes with the salty Mediterranean breeze.

One of Ibiza’s Best Beaches for Families

If we had to recommend just one beach for families, Cala Nova would be near the top of our list.

Located only a few minutes from Es Canar, Cala Nova offers everything we look for when traveling with children.

The beach is long enough that it never feels overcrowded, even in the middle of summer. The sand is soft, the water incredibly clear, and although small waves occasionally roll in, they’re usually gentle enough for children to enjoy.

Unlike many tiny coves around Ibiza, Cala Nova gives everyone enough space.

Our boys spent hours alternating between swimming, building sandcastles and simply watching the colorful fish near the rocks.

If you only visit one cultural attraction in Ibiza, make it Dalt Vila.

Yes, it has world-famous nightlife—but that’s only one side of the island.

What we’ll remember most are the peaceful mornings at hidden coves, the crystal-clear Mediterranean water, the golden sunsets, the family-friendly atmosphere, and the freedom of exploring one beautiful beach after another.

For families, Ibiza offers the perfect balance of relaxation, adventure, and convenience. It’s easy to navigate, incredibly scenic, and full of experiences that children and adults can enjoy together.

During our trip, having a rental car allowed us to visit several beaches in a single day, stop at scenic viewpoints, and explore charming inland villages at our own pace.

Driving in Ibiza

Driving is straightforward.
